Olive et Moi - L'ascenseur

How can it be that an artist only has 550 views, but produces an album that features linguistic word acrobatics and loose bon mots through to deep black humor?

Olive et Moi is reminiscent of Manu Chao, but is mostly sung in French. I particularly liked “L'ascenseur” from the debut album “Fais moi une passe”, which plays with wordplay! Unfortunately you can't find it on YouTube, like many other songs by Olive et Moi. I wonder if people also use YouTube in France?

Frische Farbe - Fresh Color

Gutze Gautsche is not a blank slate, although this probably no longer exists in the “Facebook” generation anyway, as can be read unmistakably in everyone's chronicle, but the longer the more at the expense of quality and Gutze Gautsche had to struggle with this again and again in the 80s, albeit at a high level, but always in direct comparison to the international competition.

Originally a punk band in 1978, he started making music with Dieter Meier (Yello) under the name "Frische Farbe" and released two singles with him, "Cry for fame" and "no change", after which Meier left to join Yellow. After that, however, things really took off with “Frischer Farbe” with Danny Amsler joining as drummer and Liza Wü as singer, who left the band in 1985 after a failed attempt to gain a foothold in the NDW scene. After that the band was called “Fresh Color” and dedicated itself to the emerging dance movement, which led to the discovery of DJ Bobo (Somebody dance with me) in 1993. Gutze Gautsche is a self-made producer, composer, musician and, with Fresh Music, also a publisher. Here is the song "oh, oh... Boys" from 1982 from the NDW times in connection with the legendary Big Apple Club in Zurich-Altstetten!

Goose - Brithish Mode

The Belgian band Goose was founded in 2000 and has since made a name for itself in the European electro-rock scene.

They made their breakthrough with their album Synrise (2010) in particular, not least thanks to their distinctive nu-rave sound, which combines electronic beats with a rock attitude. The influences of Giorgio Moroder, one of the pioneers of electronic music, cannot be ignored. In interviews, Goose himself named Moroder as one of the main sources of inspiration - his influence is particularly evident in the structured synth pads and the driving basslines. The song “British Mode” was written in 2006 and is a real club banger by the Belgian band Goose. With a driving synthesizer sound, a clear bassline and energetic vocals, the track perfectly embodies the nu-rave era, in which electronic music and indie rock merged together. “British Mode” sounds raw, edgy and danceable at the same time - a sound that is strongly reminiscent of British club culture, hence the title.

Ebony Bones (UK)

A must-see! Colorful, shrill, stylish, escaping from everyday life. It's no coincidence that the Londoner is described as the “British answer to Santigold”.

She may not have invented visual or acoustic punk, but she has certainly developed it further! What does Vivienne Westwood think? Ebony Bones, real name Ebony Thomas, is a British musician, producer, actress and fashion icon with a style all of her own. Since her breakthrough in the late 2000s, she has thrilled audiences with an explosive mix of Afrobeat, punk, electronic, classical and pop. Her songs are political, powerful and artistically courageous - always with a clear message and lots of energy. Their debut album “Bone of My Bones”, released in 2009, was particularly acclaimed for its innovative sound. This was followed by further albums such as “Behold, A Pale Horse” (2013), in which she also collaborated with the China Philharmonic Orchestra - an unusual but impressive fusion.

Friendly Fires - Heaven Let Me In

Friendly Fires come from England and their sound is defined by a lot of electronica, some guitar and solid percussion. You can definitely hear something popular in their sound.

Since their formation in 2006, they have been combining electronic sounds with guitars and driving drums to create a unique sound. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2008, followed by Pala in 2011. After a break, they returned in 2018 with the single “Love Like Waves” and released their third album Inflorescent in 2019. Their song “Heaven Let Me In” was released in 2018 and marked their comeback after a long break - it was produced by Disclosure, among others. In 2023, they celebrated the 15th anniversary of their debut album with a UK tour and special releases.
